Testimonies

To all parents out there who are considering a martial art for the kids or themselves OR the whole family for that matter, the most important factor to consider is the COACH, his coaching style and the coaching environment. There are many styles / types of martial arts to choose from, all have benefits…that’s a fact. However from personal experience the right Coach is what keeps the students engaged, motivated and committed more than anything else. You will have to look very hard to find a Coach like Master Bert, period. Two of my kids had the privilege to train with him. Go have a look experience it for yourself. BTW there are not many Masters in S.A it truly is a privilege to train with someone of that caliber and experience.

Andre Trytsman

A more caring and encouraging teacher/instructor I am yet to meet. Taekwon-do Master Bert overflows with words of encouragement and kindness for his students. Not exactly what you expect when sending them to train in martial arts. Both my boys absolutely adore him and are committed to mastering this art. After class he sits on the floor with them to teach some valuable life lessons like the meaning of their mantra, Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Indomitable Spirit and Self-Control. It is clear to see that his classes are a project of love and passion and I look forward to the longterm results his positive impact will have on my sons.

My daughter was here for one class. The following happened. Smile from ear to ear when she got home. ‘At last I feel that I’m good at something’ her words that evening. This was the first class. Can’t wait for the reactions after the next classes.

Nicolene Schoombie

My daughter always wanted to do a Martial Art. The hard work and dedication Master Bert puts in when training with his students, helped my daughter physically improved her strength, mentally it gave her confidence, emotionally she started believing more in herself. Have you ever had that one teacher that understood you? Master Bert is the kind of instructor that greets you when you come in and asks how you are doing, he always makes a joke or two but he knows when it time to be serious, he truly is one of the best instructors I’ve seen… He cares about his student and these days you don’t get that anymore…

Dina Grobler

I’ve been part of Impact Taekwon-Do for about a year now, and from the moment I walked in just to have a look, I knew I couldn’t leave. After my very first class, I decided this was the martial art I wanted to practice.

Training in Taekwon-Do has had a big impact on my life. Physically, I’m much fitter and healthier, and I’ve learned perseverance in everything I do. I can now run and take part in physical activities far more easily than before. Mentally, I’ve gained better focus and the ability to finish one task at a time, which has made school feel easier and more manageable.

One moment that really stands out for me was receiving my certificate when I earned my yellow belt. It was a proud milestone and showed me that my hard work was paying off.

The teaching approach at Impact TKD focuses on what we need to work on most at the time, which helps us improve steadily and with purpose. What sets this school apart for me is how quickly I connected with it — unlike other activities where it took a few classes to start enjoying them, I knew after the first class that this was for me.

Since starting Taekwon-Do, my self-esteem has skyrocketed, and I feel more confident in myself and my abilities. I also enjoy sparring nights, knowing that training is safe and well-structured with clear rules guided by our Master.

To anyone thinking about joining Impact Taekwon-Do, I would say: join — it’s awesome.

Tenike de Klerk

I’ve been training at Impact Taekwon-Do for almost a year now. I originally joined because I wanted to try something new, and I’ve always admired martial arts — but what I found here went far beyond my expectations.

Taekwon-Do has taught me how to control both my mind and my body. That balance has helped me stay calm and collected, especially in difficult situations, and it’s something I now carry with me outside the dojang as well.

One moment that really stands out in my journey was sparring for the first time. I remember thinking that the bruises that showed up the next day were completely worth it. It was challenging, empowering, and a reminder that growth often comes from pushing past your comfort zone.

Through training, I’ve learned important life skills like discipline, self-control, and respect — lessons that apply far beyond martial arts. Taekwon-Do doesn’t just train your body; it shapes your mindset and the way you approach life.

Impact Taekwon-Do is a place where opportunities multiply when you’re willing to seize them. To anyone considering joining, I’d say this: Taekwon-Do teaches you discipline, self-control, and respect — and that’s why you’ll love it. Besides, you’re only given one little spark of madness… you mustn’t lose it.

Joining Impact Taekwon-Do has been a powerful step in my martial arts journey. I was searching for a dojang where I would feel valued, and from the moment I joined, I knew I had found the right place.

Training under Master Bert has been truly inspiring. His passion for Taekwon-Do, his students, and the art itself is unmistakable. Being in an environment where the instructor genuinely cares and invests time into every student has shown me what real Taekwon-Do is all about.

Master Bert’s teaching style is both realistic and fun. He approaches training with purpose, patience, and respect, making sure that every student feels seen and supported. There is no unhealthy competition — instead, there is mutual respect, encouragement, and time for everyone to grow.

Through my training, I’ve developed greater self-discipline, patience, and self-control, and these qualities have positively impacted all areas of my life. I’ve also gained confidence and achieved personal milestones, including earning my Gauteng North SAKMAA colours, which I am very proud of.

One of the most valuable lessons Taekwon-Do has taught me is to walk away from conflict rather than engage in it — a principle I now apply in everyday life.

To anyone considering joining Impact Taekwon-Do, my advice is simple: start. Don’t be discouraged if you can’t do everything on day one. Taekwon-Do is a lifetime journey, not something learned in two weeks.

The supportive environment created by the Impact Taekwon-Do team made me feel part of the family from the very first class. I felt encouraged, motivated, and inspired to continue this journey.

Master Bert’s passion for teaching, and his commitment to helping every student grow and shine in each session, is truly something special.

Impact TKD Made Me Stronger, Inside and Out.

I joined Taekwon-Do 8 years ago because I was being bullied.

When I look back at where I started and where I am today, I can honestly say that Taekwon-Do has made me stronger — both mentally and physically.

Growing up through Taekwon-Do has taught me much more than techniques and self-defence. It has taught me respect, self-respect, discipline and how to believe in myself. My confidence and self-esteem have grown tremendously over the years, and I have learned that I am capable of much more than I once thought.

What makes Impact Taekwon-Do special to me is the way Master Bert teaches. He is calm, patient, helpful and genuinely cares about his students. He takes the time to help us with our techniques and makes every class enjoyable.

There is no unnecessary pressure or rushing — we are given the opportunity to learn properly and develop at our own pace.

Taekwon-Do has also helped me through difficult times. It has kept me moving forward and given me something positive to focus on when life has been hard. Most importantly, I have learned skills that have helped me protect myself when I was in danger.

I would definitely encourage anyone who is thinking about joining Impact Taekwon-Do to give it a try. It is fun, you learn valuable self-defence skills, you become stronger and more confident, and you meet people who become part of your journey.

After 8 years, I can honestly say that Taekwon-Do has become an important part of who I am.
